Supreme Court hearing in Assam NRC case, Centre says, cannot make country refugee capital

NEW DELHI: The issue of National Citizen Registration (NRC) of Assam was heard in the Supreme Court on Friday. Meanwhile, the central government has told the apex court that the names of lakhs of Bangladeshis in the NRC's border districts have been wrongly linked with the connivance of local authorities. The Central Government has told the court that we cannot make India the refugee capital of the world.

The next hearing in the case will be held on July 23. Now Solicitor General Tushar Mehta will file a reply in the top court after seeing the NRC co-ordinator's report. During the hearing, the Centre has said that illegal infiltrators will have to return to their homeland in any case. Centre and Assam government urge extension of NRC's tenure in top court He said the court should make changes to the deadline of July 31. Give the Deadline of NRC a future date.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi commented that if 80 lakh names were verified correctly as per the NRC coordinator, then what is the need for sample verification? Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has said that india has no place for illegal refugees. India cannot be converted into the capital of illegal refugees. The Assam NRC coordinator also sought extension of the deadline for final drafting by citing floods in the state.
