Will Marathas get reservation? Supreme court asks for answers from all state governments

New Delhi: Hearing has started in the apex court on Monday about the Maratha reservation. The bench of five judges will hear this matter continuously till March 18. The Supreme Court said during the hearing that it is necessary to hear other governments regarding reservation. The apex court has issued a notice to all the state governments asking if the reservation limit can be increased from 50 per cent? With this, the hearing has now been postponed to 15 March. The court will reach a conclusion after the reply from the states.

During the hearing, advocate Gopal Shakarnarayan said in the Supreme Court that issues have been raised by many states regarding reservation, which are of different subjects. There are different cases related to reservation, which are related to this case. During the hearing, the apex court said that issues like 122nd Amendment, 10% reservation on economic basis, classification among castes have also been raised. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi said that this case also included the interpretation of Article 342A, which would affect all the states.

Rohatgi further said that hence a petition has been filed, in which all the states must be heard, a decision cannot be taken in this matter without hearing all the states. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal also presented similar views before the court. Kapil Sibal said that constitutional question should be asked to all the states, the court should not just hear the center Maharashtra, all the states should issue notice.
