New Delhi: The Supreme Court has rejected Facebook's plea in the Delhi violence case. Now the MD of Facebook India will have to appear before the Peace and Harmony Committee of the Delhi Assembly. The apex court has upheld the summons issued by the Delhi Assembly to Facebook and made it clear that the Delhi Assembly Committee is at par with the committee of other states.

The court welcomed the verdict of Samiti chairman Raghav Chadha and dismissed a petition filed by Facebook India MD Ajit Mohan, Facebook India, and Facebook Inc. The apex court has upheld the powers of the Peace and Harmony Committee. Further investigation will be initiated after the full order of the court is received. Facebook India MD and VP Ajit Mohan, Facebook India, and Facebook Inc had filed a petition against the summons of the Delhi Assembly committee in the case. A Facebook India representative was directed to appear before the committee to cooperate in the investigation to probe the Delhi riots.

The apex court issued an order on Thursday after hearing the case saying that the recurrence of communal riots in February last year cannot be tolerated. The role of Facebook in the case should be investigated. The apex court has upheld the constitution of the Peace and Harmony Committee of the Assembly to probe the Delhi riots.
