Ranchi: The apex court has taken suo motu cognizance of the murder of Additional District Judge Uttam Anand in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana has sought a status report on the investigation through Jharkhand chief secretary and director general of police within a week in the case.

The Supreme Court said that the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of the state will also give detailed information on the law and order situation inside and outside the court premises in Jharkhand. A bench of justices N V Ramana and Suryakant, CJI, took suo motu cognizance and said that incidents of deadly attacks on judicial officers and lawyers have increased in Jharkhand in recent months.

He said this simply means law and order. This situation is worrying. The state government and the police administration should submit a report in this regard to the court. The apex court also made it clear that his order would not affect the ongoing hearing in the Jharkhand High Court. Because the High Court is hearing this particular case and the apex court is hearing this detailed issue.
