Suryakumar Yadav has been named captain of the Indian T20 team for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, as announced by chief selector Ajit Agarkar on Monday. Yadav’s selection comes after a review of his fitness, consistent performance, and feedback from the team.

During a press conference with new head coach Gautam Gambhir, Agarkar highlighted the importance of reliability and fitness in choosing the new captain. “Fitness was a major factor in our decision. We needed someone who is likely to be available for all matches,” Agarkar explained. “Yadav is one of the top T20 batters and his consistent presence makes him a strong candidate for the role.”

The T20 series against Sri Lanka is set to begin on July 27, featuring three T20 matches before transitioning to ODIs. Agarkar also addressed the decision to exclude other prominent players like Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul from the T20 captaincy, citing fitness concerns and strategic considerations. Rohit Sharma will resume his role as captain for the ODI matches.
