New Delhi: A Delhi court has granted interim bail till November 12 to Olympian wrestler Sushil Kumar, convicted in the murder of 27-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankhar. Advocate RS Malik, representing Sushil, has submitted that Sushil's wife requires surgery and proper medical attention. In such a situation, an appeal was also made to Sushil for three weeks of interim bail on humanitarian grounds to take care of her.

Additional Sessions Judge Shivaji Anand, while granting interim bail to Sushil, said that there is also no denying that after the surgery, the applicant's wife will not be in a position to perform the normal daily routine and is going to be dependent on others for some time. Therefore, having regard to the medical condition of the wife of the applicant and considering the fact that there are two minor children, this Court is of the view that the presence of the applicant is going to be required. Sushil will have to furnish a surety of one lakh along with surety from two persons.

The court has also said that at least two security personnel will be present 24 hours with Sushil to keep a watch on Sushil so that the criminals do not threaten the witnesses. Sushil has been instructed to bear the expenses of Rs 10,000 per day for both the security personnel as well.

Reports say that Sushil's wife was suffering from severe back pain, which worsened with time. Doctors advised him for surgery. Sushil's legal team had told the court that she could not be operated on despite having other family members as her husband was not there and others had not taken it seriously.

The court has said that it seems appropriate because the first operation was scheduled on August 10, 2022, yet he could not be operated and in the meantime, his condition has started deteriorating. The court also noted that Sushil's mother-in-law is suffering from arthritis. In such a situation, the health documents of the mother-in-law were also sought from the hospital.
