Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar was born on May 26, 1983, to a Hindu Jat family in the Baprola village of Najafgarh, Delhi. His father Diwan Singh was a DTC bus driver, while his mother Kamla Devi was a homemaker. Sushil Kumar became the first Indian to win an individual medal in two consecutive Olympic bouts by winning a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics, and a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  

Kumar started his training at the age of 14 from the Akhara of Chhatrasal Stadium. In the Akhara, he was trained by Yashveer and Ramphal and later the Arjuna Award-winning Satpal trained him and then in the camp of Indian Railways he was trained by Gyan Singh and Rajkumar Baisla Gurjar etc.

Fighting in the 66kg weight department, Sushil had won the world title in 2010, a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and his victory made him the only Indian to win two individual Olympic medals. He won gold medals at the 2005 and 2007 Commonwealth Wrestling Championships. In the 2007 World Championships, he occupied the 7th position and also won the Bronze Medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Wrestler Sushil Kumar's awards, honours and achievements: Arjuna Award, 2005, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (Joint), India's Best Sports Award, Padma Shri, 2011 Sushil Kumar is accused of abducting and assaulting Sagar Dhankhar on the night of May 4, 2021, inside the Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi along with his accomplices. Due to this beating, Sagar lost his life in the hospital itself and the police arrested Sushil Kumar on May 23 in this case.
