Mumbai: The Eknath Shinde government of Maharashtra has made a big announcement amid the ongoing political tussle over freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. CM Eknath Shinde has said that Veer Savarkar's birth anniversary (May 28) will be celebrated as Swatantrya Veer Gaurav Diwas' across Maharashtra. Maharashtra cabinet minister Uday Samant has proposed to celebrate the birth anniversary of Veer Savarkar. Accepting this proposal, Chief Minister Shinde made this announcement on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

Tweeting on behalf of the Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office (CMO), it has been said, 'CM Eknath Shinde has announced that the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Savarkar on May 28 will be celebrated as 'Swatantryaveer Gaurav Diwas' by the state government. Various programmes will be organised on this day to propagate the ideas of Swatantra Veer Savarkar. In another tweet, the CMO said, 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar has made a very important contribution to the country's independence and national development. Industries Minister Uday Samant had demanded to celebrate 'Swatantrya Veer Gaurav Diwas' to further his patriotism, courage, and progressive thoughts and to bow down to him.

Let us inform you that earlier Chief Minister Shinde had announced to take out the Savarkar Gaurav Yatra' in entire Maharashtra. This journey has also started from last 2nd April. 'Savarkar Gaurav Yatra' is to be organised in all 288 assembly constituencies of Maharashtra. Significantly, this political tussle regarding Veer Savarkar started after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called him Mafivir. Congress's allies Shiv Sena and NCP also objected to Rahul's statement. Uddhav Thackeray had said that while Savarkar is an inspiration for us, his insult will not be tolerated. At the same time, Sharad Pawar had said that Savarkar's contribution to the country cannot be forgotten, and Pawar had also asked Rahul not to comment on him.
