Afghan acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met with UN Special Representative Deborah Lyons in Kabul to discuss human rights, humanitarian aid, development projects, the financial sector, economic growth, and other topics.

the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) reportedly said that Lyons said that she presented a positive report  of Afghanistan in the UNSC's latest meeting which is an accomplishment for the interim government of the IEA.

The Taliban had previously expressed their delight at the UN mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) mandate being extended for another year. The mission for Afghanistan was extended by the UN Security Council last week. With Russia abstaining, the resolution was confirmed by 14 votes.

During the discussion, Muttaqi expressed hope that the UN mission in Afghanistan's (UNAMA) mandate will be renewed, not only to focus on the humanitarian crisis, but also to help Afghanistan obtain recognition in the political realm, according to Khaama Press.

The extension of the mandate, according to Muttaqi, will be a significant step toward removing restrictions on individuals and the Afghan economy. "The absence of Afghanistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations has resulted in violations of the Afghan people's rights both inside and outside of Afghanistan," as per reports.  During the meeting, both parties decided to meet again in order to resolve difficulties.
