Chennai: Tamil Nadu is the most affected state of Coronavirus in the country after Maharashtra. Tamil Nadu is facing a big challenge for uniform corona testing across the state. Because the latest data shows that its diagnostic capability is mostly concentrated in Chennai or its adjoining districts. According to official figures, 553,000 corona tests have been conducted so far in Maharashtra and 506,800 in Rajasthan. In comparison, Tamil Nadu has investigated around 593,000 people so far.

As of 9.30 am on 8 June, the number of corona cases in Tamil Nadu was 31,667. This is the second largest figure of any state in the country after Maharashtra's 85,975. Delhi ranks third with 27,654 infected cases. There are a total of 76 testing centers in Tamil Nadu, of which 32 are private labs. The latest data from the state government shows that 71% of all cases reported in Tamil Nadu are from Chennai district alone. In all 37 districts of the state, out of the total number of investigations conducted, Chennai district alone accounted for 23%. If the neighboring districts are also merged with Chennai, then this share is 30%. However, Chennai and surrounding districts account for 75% of the total coronavirus cases in the state.

A positive rate of 18.13% was recorded in Chennai district. After this, Chengalpattu comes at 13.28%, Thiruvallur 11.96% and Ariyalur 9.62%. Southern districts of the state such as Madurai and Dindigul can be another major concern. Where investigations are being conducted below the national average.
