On September 28, Tata Motors will unveil what would be the cheapest electric vehicle in India. The Tiago EV, which will be the electric version of Tata's well-known hatchback, would be the third electric vehicle produced by the automaker, which presently holds a commanding lead in India's EV market. After green energy was introduced to SUVs and sedans on the market, the electric hatchback will be a first in India. In advance of the Tiago EV's official debut the following week, the automaker has disclosed a number of its characteristics.
The availability of fast charging for the Tiago EV has been confirmed by Tata Motors. The 26kWh lithium-ion battery pack used in the Tigor EV is probably going to be employed in the Tiago EV as well. Using a DC fast charger, the battery in the Tigor EV takes around an hour to recharge to 80% capacity. With this battery pack, the Tiago EV should have a range of over 300 miles on a single charge.
The high-energy-density 21.5 kWh and 16.5 kWh battery pack variants that Tata uses in its business EV Tata XPres-T are also an option for this vehicle. In the case of the XPress-T, the power output is 41 horsepower and 105 Nm of torque.
The inclusion of linked vehicle technology in the Tiago EV has also been verified by Tata Motors. The carmaker's ZConnect technology, which is currently present in other EVs, will be included in the electric hatchback. Additionally, smartwatch connectivity is supported. The Tiago EV will also have quality leatherette seats, according to a statement from Tata, which is expected to be found in the higher trims.
The Tiago EV will have features including cruise mode and one pedal drive, according to an earlier statement from Tata Motors. The second innovation will give drivers the option of hard regenerative braking, which would keep the battery pack of the electric hatchback charged while driving. Additionally, multi-mode regen functionality is anticipated.
In addition to the current ICE and CNG models, Tiago EV will be the only hatchback model in India to receive an EV version. The CNG version of the Tiago was previously introduced by Tata Motors in January of this year. The Tigor is the first vehicle in the nation to be offered in all three configurations, including an EV model. It will join the Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max, and Nexon EV Prime in Tata's electric vehicle fleet.
