On Monday, Tata Sons announced the hiring of Ilker Ayci, the former chairman of Turkish Airlines, as the new CEO and Managing Director of Air India. The Air India board of directors met this afternoon to discuss Ilker Ayci's candidacy, and after deliberation, approved Ayci's appointment as CEO and MD of Air India, according to a statement from Tata Sons. N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, was a special invitee to the board meeting, according to the statement.

According to the statement, Ayci will take on his new responsibilities on or before April 1 of this year. Ayci's appointment to the new job is still pending regulatory approval, according to the announcement. Air India was reclaimed by the Tatas late last month, nearly seven decades after the government had taken control.

"Ilker is a well-known figure in the aviation sector, having pushed Turkish Airlines to its current level of success during his time there. "We are ecstatic to welcome Ilker to the Tata Group, where he will lead Air India into a new age," Chandrasekaran said.

According to the statement, he graduated from Bilkent University in 1994 and completed a Master's Program in International Relations from Istanbul's Marmara University in 1997 after a research stay on political science at Leeds University in the United Kingdom in 1995.

Air India has changed as soon as it comes into the hands of TATA, now flights will not be delayed or cancelled.
