Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP is targeting the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat, with plans to unseat Asaduddin Owaisi of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
Telangana BJP spokesperson Kishan Reddy expressed their ambition to secure all 17 parliamentary seats, including Hyderabad, in an address to the media. Reddy highlighted a growing positive reception from the public, noting a decline in AIMIM's vote share during the December 2023 Assembly elections, while BJP's share saw an increase. He emphasized BJP's determination to claim the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat by defeating Asaduddin Owaisi.
The Hyderabad parliamentary seat has been under AIMIM's control since 1989 when Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, Asaduddin Owaisi’s father, clinched the victory as an AIMIM MP. Prior to that, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi contested and won as an independent candidate in 1984.
Asaduddin Owaisi succeeded his father, winning the seat in 2004 and has held it ever since.
The Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency comprises Malakpet, Karwan, Ghoshamahal, Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura, and Bahadurpura Assembly segments.
