Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy launched a vehement criticism against the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the arrest of K Kavitha on Saturday, denouncing it as a "serial drama" and accusing them of engaging in cheap politics.

Addressing a press conference, Reddy questioned the timing of Kavitha's arrest, just a day before the polls notification. He labeled the arrest as a calculated move and questioned why Kavitha wasn't arrested earlier in 2022. Reddy also criticized KCR, Kavitha's father and the leader of BRS, for not appearing alongside her during the arrest.

Accusing both parties of attempting to mislead the people of the state, Reddy asserted that the BJP and BRS were indulging in political tactics to gain votes. He alleged that while the BJP sought to present itself as taking action against corruption, KCR aimed to garner sympathy votes.

Meanwhile, K Kavitha, daughter of BRS founder and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, was produced before the Rouse Avenue Court in the national capital on Saturday. She was arrested following a day-long questioning and a raid at her residence in Hyderabad.

Addressing reporters at the court, Kavitha declared her arrest as illegal. The action by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) comes nearly two months after Kavitha was summoned by the agency.

An ED officer stated, "In exercise of the power conferred upon me under subsection (1) of section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, I hereby arrest Smt. Kalvakuntla Kavitha at 05.20 pm on 15.03.2024, and she has been informed of grounds for arrest. A copy of the grounds of arrest containing 14 pages have been served upon her."
