Bangalore: After the controversial Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, the atmosphere over a mosque in Mangalore city of Karnataka has become tense. During the restoration of the Malali Juma Masjid hidden in the boundary wall, when some parts started appearing, people claimed that it was an old temple. In view of the activism of The Hindu organisations, the police have imposed Section 144 in the area, which will continue till tomorrow (May 26, 8 am).

Section 144 has been imposed in the 500-metre area around the mosque. When the wall of Malali Juma Masjid collapsed in Mangalore, it was claimed to have found a temple-like structure from within. Then the Hindu and Muslim sides immediately came down to stake. Hindus said there is a temple while Muslims said that old issues should stop being uprooted.

Amidst the controversy, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) offered special prayers (Tambula Prashne) at the temple (Ramanjaneya Bhajana Mandira) half a km away from the mosque. However, the police were already assured on their behalf that the law would not be taken into their hands. Therefore, no action has been taken by the police on the peaceful handling of everything.
