New Delhi: Air quality in Delhi-NCR reached the 'poor' category on Tuesday, two days before Diwali, and Monday night was recorded as the coldest night of the season. The MET department said the temperature plunged to 13.6 degrees Celsius in the capital, two degrees below normal. The sky remained cloudy on Tuesday with the maximum temperature hovering around 30 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at 15 degrees Celsius.

The air quality level remained at 314 on Tuesday and the air quality will be in very poor condition on Wednesday and Thursday due to pollution in Delhi-NCR. The air quality will be in very poor condition the next Friday and Saturday. The amount of PM 2.5 is expected to be less than 5 per cent on Tuesday and Wednesday due to stubble burning as the wind is in the opposite direction and may reduce the number of pollutants in the air.

Meanwhile, incidents of stubble burning are also on the rise. On Monday, stubble was burnt at 1796 places in Punjab, 124 in Haryana and 157 in Uttar Pradesh. According to SAFAR, after burning agricultural residues, its contribution to the amount of PM 2.5 pollutants was about seven per cent on Tuesday.
