Indore: There has been a protest over the neglect of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on Shivaji Vatika. The turban of the 51-year-old 17-feet-high Equestrian Shivaji statue has been broken. The Maratha community has objected to it after receiving information about the breaking of the trumpet. They say that it should be rolled back at the earliest. This kind of neglect of the statue has saddened the spirit of society.

However, the municipal corporation has said to repair it again. No one is aware of how the turban's trumpet has broken. Manohar Pawar, president of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Pratishthan, says the statue was inaugurated by the then PM Indira Gandhi in 1971. The height and workmanship of this statue brought from Mumbai is the centre of attraction. On 19th February, on Shivaji Jayanti, more than two dozen members of the religious-social and political organisations come here to pay obeisance. Along with this, hundreds of figures will gather for Abhishek-pujan at the Marathi-speaking statue.

District liaison in charge of Shiv Sena Jitendra Waghmare said that the beautification of the idol is being done by the corporation. For this, the statue has been re-installed 5 feet behind. Probably because of this, the trumpet of his turban has been broken. A memorandum has been submitted to the Corporation Commissioner Pratibha Pal for re-installation of it. Shivaji Vatika was visited several times by the officers but no one paid any attention to it. It should be fixed quickly.
