Lucknow: Just a month after it got a majority in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has created another history. For the first time, the saffron party has secured a majority in the Legislative Council of Uttar Pradesh. The BJP has now captured 64 of the 100 seats in the Legislative Council. This has further increased the strength of the Yogi government.

The Yogi government can now get the law passed by both the Houses on its own. At the same time, the crushing defeat of the SP may further add to the problems of the opposition party. Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and leader of opposition Akhilesh Yadav, who is already facing rebellion, will face heightened challenges. The BJP has won 33 of the 36 vacant seats of the Legislative Council from the Local Bodies Authority area.

Bjp candidates had won unopposed in nine Legislative Council seats, while the winners were declared in 24 more seats on Tuesday. The results have been very disappointing for the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Akhilesh Yadav. The party's account could not be opened in a single seat. At the same time, independent candidates have won in 3 seats.
