New Delhi: The first day of the week of Delhi-NCR began with a tremendous cold wave. For the first time this season, Delhi was seen shivering at a temperature of 3.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature at Safdarjung Weather Standard Centre has been recorded 4.8 degrees below normal. On the other hand, Jafarpur recorded a minimum temperature of 2.9 degrees Celsius, 6 degrees below normal and 3.1 degrees Celsius at Lodi Road. The MET department has declared a cold wave with such a low minimum temperature in the month of December this year. The cold wave conditions in Delhi are set to continue till Tuesday night.

According to information received so far, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 21 degrees below normal and a minimum temperature of 3.2 degrees Celsius on Monday. The minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The minimum temperature will start rising from Tuesday onwards and the minimum temperature has reach 8 degrees by Sunday.

According to the MET department, two western disturbances and slow northwesterly winds will start raising the minimum temperature from December 22. It is learnt that the MET department declares cold waves when the minimum temperature drops to four degrees Celsius. According to the MET department, several cities of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, Rajasthan recorded a minimum temperature of fewer than three degrees Celsius. In cities where the temperature was recorded below two degrees, the cold wave has been anointed.
