Patna: The outbreak of poisonous liquor in Bihar is not stopping. The number of deaths due to poisonous liquor in the Chhapra district has now increased from 66 to 70. Apart from Chhapra, deaths due to alcohol have also been reported in Saran, Siwan, and Begusarai. An SIT has been formed to investigate the poisonous liquor case. An additional SP will lead this team.

Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar told the media that 31 police officers have been included in the SIT. It also includes three DSP-level officers. Saran District Magistrate Rajesh Meena said that in the last 48 hours, raids have been conducted across the district and 126 liquor traders have been caught. More than 4000 liters of illicit liquor have also been seized. Some persons have also been arrested in this case.

He said that we are following the path shown by The Father of the Nation Bapu. In other states, deaths are taking place due to drinking poisonous liquor. The BJP had supported prohibition. Earlier on Wednesday, the BJP had lashed out at the Nitish government in the Assembly over the issue. Due to this, there was a lot of uproar in the Assembly. Nitish Kumar also got angry. Bihar CM attacked the BJP and said that all of you were in favor of prohibition earlier. What has happened now? The Supreme Court has refused to give an early hearing in the case of deaths due to drinking poisonous liquor in Bihar. A Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Supreme Court in the case of deaths in Chhapra, seeking an investigation by the SIT and compensation to the victims.
