In a recent showcase, Nissan provided a glimpse into the future of their Micra hatchback model with a new concept electric car, the Concept 20-23. This prototype, a tribute to the 20th anniversary of the Nissan Design Europe studio in London, offers a striking sports car appearance. While still a concept, this electric vehicle gives a preview of what the Micra might look like in its electric form when Nissan plans to launch it in 2025.
Nissan's unveiling of the Micra EV concept represents a significant step towards their goal of becoming fully electric within the next seven years. The Japanese automotive giant has expressed its commitment to manufacturing exclusively electric vehicles by 2030, even as the UK adjusts its deadlines for banning petrol cars.
The Micro EV concept boasts a three-door configuration with scissor doors on either side, enhancing its sporty appeal. The aerodynamic design, featuring sporty air intakes behind the front wheels and a large single-piece spoiler at the rear, contributes to its striking appearance. LED taillights, roof-integrated air intake, and textured exterior paint further underscore the vehicle's innovative design.
Stepping inside the Micra EV concept, the interior merges elements of a standard EV with the essence of a racing car. The dashboard is equipped with a pair of digital screens, providing a futuristic feel. Between the occupants lie two metal bars supporting the center console, adding to the racing-inspired ambiance.
Based on the CMF-B EV platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, the electric Micra is anticipated to offer consumers two battery and powertrain choices. The entry-level variant is expected to feature a 42 kWh battery pack, generating 125 hp, while the higher-end model will sport a 52 kWh battery pack, producing an impressive 150 hp. Nissan claims the Micro EV could achieve a range of up to 421 kilometers on a single charge, as per WLTP standards.
