The ruling DMK alliance is far ahead of the rival AIADMK and its allies. While the final results are yet to be declared by the State Election Commission. The DMK along with the party and its allies in Tamil Nadu won the rural local body elections held in nine districts of the state on October 6 and October 9. The ruling combination was also moving ahead in 27 wards in other districts, where bypolls indicate a trend that the party has consolidated its presence in the state after the thumping victory it registered in the 2021 assembly elections. Rival AIADMK was leading in only 4 out of 140 seats and this is a clear indicator of where the wind was blowing.

The DMK was leading or won in 300 panchayat union wards out of a total of 1,381 wards in the nine districts where elections were held. Congress was leading in 11 seats. The opposition AIADMK was leading or won 50 seats out of 1,381 panchayat union wards and its ally won only one seat. PMK which was an alliance partner of AIADMK in 2021 assembly elections and contested alone in rural local body elections, was either leading or won 13 seats.

MDMK and VCK, DMK allies leading in 8 and 3 wards respectively. Meanwhile, the opposition AIADMK has alleged that the counting of votes in the rural local body elections in Tamil Nadu was "deliberately proceeding" at a slow pace, as per reports. AIADMK advocates' joint secretary made a representation before state election commissioner V Palani Kumar, contending that vote counting was being deliberately slowed down in areas where the opposition is likely to win.
