Chennai: The BA.4 sub-variant of Omicron, a form of corona virus that has wreaked havoc in many countries, has also entered India. Its second case has been confirmed in India after Hyderabad. The new case is being told from Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Subramaniam said in a statement that a case of Omicron's BA.4 sub-version has been registered in the state. This is the second case of the BA.4 sub-variant reported in India.

According to the information received, the affected person is a resident of Navalur in Chengalpattu district, located 30 km from Cheniya in Tamil Nadu. Earlier on Friday, the first case of BA.4 sub-variant was registered in Hyderabad. Media reports quoting sources said, 'After detecting the first case of BA.4, contact tracing of the person who traveled from South Africa to Hyderabad has been started. He was in quarantine and the sample was collected on May 9.

Let us inform that the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) will issue a bulletin on the case on Monday 23 May. The BA.4 version was first found in South Africa on 10 January 2022. It has since been found in all South African provinces.
