Shamli: In Uttar Pradesh, the incident of giving birth to a woman's baby in the toilet of a community health centre in Shamli district has come to light. A staff nurse has been transferred after the incident while two high officials have been given stern warnings. An official said in a briefing on Tuesday that the nurse is alleged to have not seen the pregnant woman while the superintendent and medical officer referred her to another centre instead of taking immediate action.

The helpless woman then forced to give birth to a baby in the centre's toilet. The incident came to light on May 27 when the woman's father-in-law filed a complaint and accused the Centre staff of negligence. The official said the departmental inquiry confirmed the allegations.

Chief Medical Officer Sanjay Bhandarkar has said that departmental action has been taken after an inquiry by Deputy Chief Medical Officer K P Singh. Bhandarkar informed that staff nurse Angelina has been transferred and her increment has been stopped, while warning letters have been issued to Superintendent Ramesh Chandra and Medical Officer Manjit Kaur.
