Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh): Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is not even hesitating to spend thousands of crores on the implementation of the Food Safety Act. The poor are not in the way of the poor. The state government is taking strong steps to prevent food security from being endangered. Rice is distributed at 5 kg per month per person in the rice card to satisfy the hunger of the poor and provide them with quality nutrition. On the other hand, agriculture is the key to the survival of mankind and buys farmers' crop products at minimum support prices. Andhra Pradesh is at the top of the other states in this regard. On the one hand, the poor are assured of food security. On the other hand, the poor and the farmers are happy to buy the crops grown at a minimum support price.

The government is going to the farmers' eyes to benefit every farmer and buy ing grain at a support price. The Centre has announced support prices of Rs 1,888 per quintal of grain 'A' grade and Rs 1,868 per quintal. Antyodaya Anna Yojana is distributing 35 kg of rice per month to the family with cards. On the other hand, anganwadis are providing free nutrition to children between 6 months and 6 years of age. Free midday meal scheme is implemented in government, aided and local bodies managed schools.

Under the Food Safety Act, the Centre will subsidise only 40 per cent cardholders in urban areas and 60 per cent in rural areas. The rest is provided by the state government at its own cost. This will cost rs 5,000 crore annually on the government. There are over 1.52 crore rice cards in the state. For this purpose, 2.50 lakh metric tons of rice are distributed every month.

More than 4.47 crore family members who have registered in the rice card are available for free goods. Already 13,000 crore of rice and pulses worth Rs 1,500 crore have reached the poor houses for free. The government is distributing 10 kg of rice per month and 2 kg of pulses per family free of cost to ensure that employment or poor are not hungry during Covid. The distribution of free goods in the 15th installment is currently underway. The 20th installment of this month will distribute free goods.
