Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday extended the temporary ban on demolition of buildings of the state secretariat till 16 July, that is till today. Let us tell you that yesterday, the bench of Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijayasena Reddy has heard the petition of Professor PL Vishveshwara Rao and Dr Cheruku Sudhakar on 10 July. The bench had refused to demolish the building till July 13 in the first hearing of July 10. After that the moratorium was extended which was for 15 July. A sealed envelope was given to the government.

It is being told that a directive was passed to present the proposal of the state cabinet in this regard. It is now reported that the petitioners alleged that 'the demolition of the existing 10-block secretariat complex of about 10 lakh square feet is being done without following the prescribed procedure of law'. Simultaneously, the petitioners also alleged that the government's move was against the construction and demolition waste management rules 2016, the provisions of the Pandemic Diseases Act 1897 and the provisions of the Environment Protection Act 1986, among other related laws. In fact, the Advocate General of Telangana recently told the court that the state government has obtained the necessary permission from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for the demolition of the building. In this case, the court has now extended the moratorium on Wednesday.

He has even instructed the Center to respond to his stand on environmental issues regarding the demolition of the secretariat complex. The government led by K Chandrasekhar Rao started the demolition of the secretariat building complex on July 7. At the same time, the High Court had said about the construction of a new secretariat complex by demolishing the existing secretariat of the state government. After all this, public interest petitions challenging the decision to construct the new campus were dismissed.
