Thirteen member of the family arrested for allegedly demanding dowry and calling off the wedding just after demands not fulfilled cops said today. Accused are idendified as Ramawtar and his family initially demanded a dowry of Rs 5 lakh from the family of a girl, who are residents of Amabari village.

Police investicated that Before the scheduled wedding, the girl's family gave Rs 1 lakh cash and two cheques of Rs 1 lakh,  Ramawtar's family later demanded an additional amount of Rs 10 lakh as dowry, which the girl's family refused.

The accused family, from Pithanpur village in Aligarh district, then withdrew Rs 2 lakh that was given in cheque and refused to return the amount, police said.

They also decided to call off the wedding following which, the woman's brother lodged an FIR against Ramawtar's family yesterday
