In 1961, the Soviet Union tested the most dangerous and powerful nuclear bomb in the history of the world. It is known as 'Tsar Bomba', and it not only changed the times but its impact can be felt even today. The test of this nuclear bomb was so destructive that its explosion was seen even from 1000 kilometers away. This bomb had the capability to end the lives of millions of people in one stroke and even today it holds its unique identity in the history of nuclear power.

Ability to kill 60 lakh people

It is not difficult to understand the power of this Russian atomic bomb. Experts say that if this bomb was dropped on a big city like London, about 60 lakh people would have died in one stroke. Moreover, the power of Tsar Bomba was 1,570 times more than the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This bomb could produce energy equivalent to 50 megatons of TNT, which means that it could wipe out the entire city in one go.

According to British historian Alex Wellerstein, if Tsar Bomba had been dropped on the city of London, 5.8 million people would have died. The impact would have caused massive destruction up to a distance of 9 kilometers, destroying every building and killing every person. The milder impact would have been felt up to a distance of about 50 kilometers. Because of such a high destructive capacity, this bomb has been called "the weapon of destruction of the earth".

Kept top secret for 6 decades

Tsar Bomba was built under a special program "Izdeliye 202", and was dropped by the Russian military near Novaya Zemlya in the Arctic Ocean. However, this test was hidden from the world and when the Western countries came to know about it, it was named 'Tsar Bomba'.

According to experts, the Soviet Union achieved a great technical achievement through this test. But the power of this bomb was so high that it was recorded by cameras from a distance of hundreds of miles. The cameras were kept in low light position so that they do not get 'blinded' by the brightness of the nuclear explosion. The entire incident of this test was recorded for about 40 seconds, after which the fireball turned into a mushroom shape. A plane, which was 100 miles away from the explosion site, recorded this mushroom-shaped cloud, which reached a height of about 213,000 feet.

The footage of this explosion was kept top secret by Russia for nearly 6 decades. Recently, Russia made this footage public on the occasion of completion of 75 years of its nuclear program.

Global influence and arms race

The test of Tsar Bomba gave a new turn to the nuclear arms race at the global level. After this incident, countries around the world started paying attention to their nuclear programs. China involved itself in this arms race by testing space-loitering missiles, which increased concern at the global level. This test of the Soviet Union also made it clear how devastating a nuclear war could be. This bomb, which is considered the world's largest nuclear test event, gave rise to serious discussions on future nuclear agreements and arms control. The test of Tsar Bomba was a historic event, which made the world aware of the power of nuclear weapons and their possible consequences. Even today, efforts are made to understand the effect of this bomb and the technology behind it. This incident is like a warning to humanity that if a nuclear war happens, how terrible its result can be.
