Dehradun: Road accidents are not coming down in Uttarakhand. Accidents are on the rise even as the condition of roads has improved. In Uttarakhand, 1,138 people have lost their lives in road accidents in 14 months. That is, more than 80 people are dying in accidents every day. 1,558 people were also injured in 1,922 accidents during this period. In the year 2021, 820 people died in 1,405 accidents. The cause of most accidents has been reported to be over speed.

Accidents are happening not only in the hilly areas but also in the plains. In the year 2020, there have been a total of 1,041 accidents in the state, in which 674 persons have died. There have been 671 accidents due to over speed, in which 430 people have died. In the year 2021, there have been a total of 1,405 accidents, of which 820 people have died.

Till April this year, 318 people have died in 517 road accidents. Increasing road accidents are becoming worrisome. Although the transport department claims to check, the department's action in remote rural areas is inadequate. Overloading of vehicles is a big problem in hilly areas.
