UP police arrest village head Mohammad Arif for throwing temple flag, putting up Islamic flag

Lucknow: The police of Bhojipura police station in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh have arrested Mohammad Arif alias Guddu on the charge of hurting religious sentiments by sharing a controversial post on social media. A mobile has also been seized from the possession of the accused. Mohammad Arif, 32, is the head of village Bhikampur under Bhojipura police station area.

According to the police, Arif alias Guddu was arrested near Baikunthapur gate on Monday (May 1, 2023) at around 12:20 pm. He posted a video from his Facebook account. In this, the flag on a temple was thrown down and the Islamic flag was shown waving at that place. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Raj Kumar Agarwal has informed that Bhojipura police had received a video from the social media cell of Bareilly police. While investigating the matter, Sub Inspector Modi Singh of Bhojipura police station came to know that an attempt has been made to vitiate the atmosphere by sharing the controversial post from Guddu's mobile. Based on Modi Singh's complaint, a case was registered against Guddu under IPC sections 295 (A) (hurting religious sentiments), 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot) and 67 IT Act.

Taking action against the accused, he was produced before the court, from where he was sent behind bars. According to the police, several cases are already registered against Pradhan Arif. In 2021, a case was registered against him for obstructing government work, rioting and many other sections.┬а
