LUCKNOW:  As paprt of  the midday meal programme, the Uttar Pradesh government will roll out "Tithi Bhojan" (community lunch).

The rules for all states to follow the practise were authorised by the Union Ministry of Education four years prior to this.
The scheme is intended at ensuring greater community participation and promoting involvement of religious and charitable institutions.

In 2014, Gujarat became the first state to implement it, and the Union Ministry of Education thereafter gave instructions for its replication in all states.

The programme makes use of community involvement to carry on the custom of feeding large crowds of people at festivals and special occasions.

Awadhesh Kumar Tiwari, the special secretary for basic education, stated in an order that the programme aims to include community members in supplying youngsters with wholesome food.

The menu will be decided by the head teacher and other members of the school management committee, and the food should be produced in the school kitchen, said Mr Tiwari.

On particular occasions or festivals, community members may voluntarily donate/sponsor either dishes or food.
Fried foods like pooris, parathas, and pakodas, dairy products like paneer, kheer, and daliya, and junk food like hamburgers, pizza, and Maggi are some of the foods that shouldn't be served.

Tithi Bhojan is when members of the general public give children extra meals that are filled with nourishment on specific 'tithi' (dates) or special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, or festivals.

People can offer a complete dinner or individual foods like candies, namkeens, fruits, or sprouts.

Officials said that during 'Tithi Bhojan', food items should be given as per food habits of children of the region concerned. A combination of cereal, pulse, and vegetables may be provided in case of a full meal.
