Mamata Banerjee's opposition to the Citizenship Register in Assam is getting heavy on the opposition party. In protest of Mamta's stand, Dwipen Pathak, chief of the Trinamool Congress Committee of Assam, resigned from his post. With this, Pradeep Pachani and Diganta Saikia also left the party saying that they do not want to remain in the party who wants to compromise with the identity of the original non-Assamese people.

On the other hand, since the last draft of the NRC in Assam, Manipur has become alarmed by the danger of illegal citizens coming from neighbouring states. Manipur Chief Minister N. Beren Singh has said that the government is on high alert and monitoring committee has been set up at the state and district level to prevent illegal people from entering the state.

According to Biren Singh, Manipur is threatening to increase the number of outsiders as compared to the local population. Meanwhile, Delhi BJP Manoj Tewari has written a letter to the Home Ministry from the Delhi Government regarding the demand for returning Rohingya and Bangladeshi illegally residing in Delhi.

The conflict between the political parties is increasing on the issue of illegal citizens. A group of Trinamool MPs were stopped at Silchar airport in Assam and after this, they were formally arrested in the late evening. Six MPs of TMC and 2 MLA have been detained. They wanted to hold a meeting in Silchar on the issue of civil register. They were not allowed to leave the airport.
