Kolkata: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Arpita Ghosh has resigned as a Rajya Sabha MP. The Chairman of the House has accepted her resignation. Arpita is said to have resigned under the party's plan. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) will soon send another candidate from the seat to the Rajya Sabha. On the other hand, Arpita may be given a new responsibility.

Tell you that Arpita Ghosh was sent to the Upper House in March 2020. She lost the Lok Sabha election from Balurghat in 2019. The party had then decided to send her to the Rajya Sabha. Earlier, TMC decided to send Sushmita Dev, who came from the Congress to the Upper House. Sushmita had announced to quit the Congress on August 16. TMC tweeted on Tuesday informing Sushmita Dev about her nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections. TMC said Mamata Banerjee's only aim is to empower women, to have the highest participation in politics. Their move will help us achieve our objective.

The Election Commission has recently announced by-elections to 7 Rajya Sabha seats. These seats are lying vacant due to resignation, death, and completion of tenure. According to a notification issued by the Election Commission, bye-elections are to be held in 2 seats in Tamil Nadu, 1 each in Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Madhya Pradesh.
