The inconvenience caused by student audience on Friday has halted the hearing and Madras High Court resumed with the arrear exam case. Tamil Nadu government is firm in its stance, informed the court that no violation took place in cancelling arrear exams, added the decision was in the interest of the students.

Over and above, universities are provided with autonomy to cancel arrear exams and the government took the decision only after thorough consultation with universities, TN government added. Higher Education department of the Tamil Nadu government filed its response to the counter-affidavit of University Grants Commission (UGC) calling to stop cancellation of arrear exams for students exception to final year. The division bench comprising Justice Sathyanarayanan and justice R Hemalatha were investigating the petition. Friday, as many as 350 students had reportedly logged into the virtual court. On contrary to regulations, kept their mikes unmuted and resorted to conversing with each other as ‘mama’, ‘machan’ and ‘bro’, unmindful of the proceedings in progress resulted in stalling the hearing.

The proceedings resumed at 12 noon after two hours, when the High Court registry intervened and removed all the students from the virtual court hearing. The University Grants Commission (UGC) had informed the bench on Wednesday that it won't support  the Tamil Nadu Government’s decision to cancel arrear examinations of all arts and science, engineering and MCA students, except for those in the final year.
