Dindigul: On Wednesday, as many as 25 persons sustained injuries in a jallikattu held in Pugaiyilaipatti near Sanarpatti in Dindigul district. 

The yearly Jallikattu celebration was held as a part of the festival for St. Sandhiyagappar and St. Sebastian's Church. Up to 476 bulls from the districts of Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Virudhunagar, and Tiruchi enrolled online to compete. 25 people in Dindigul suffered simple injuries, while nine people, including a 60-year-old man, suffered severe injuries that required hospitalisation. They included bull owners, bull tamers, and onlookers.

Competitions for the jallikattu and manjuvirattu are held throughout south Tamil Nadu, including Alankanallur and Madurai. Every year, it coincides with the festival honoring the St. Santhyakapar and St. Sebastian temples in Pugailaipatty, Dindigul District.

Many bull tamers avidly attend the Jallikattu competition and is staged in several regions of Tamil Nadu.

A Jallikattu competition was organised in the village of Pugailaipatty. The match resulted in 23 injuries, of which 17 have been treated and released from the hospital and 6 are still receiving care there." 490 bulls in Jallikattu registered online for the competition, but only 483 of them showed up.

Dr. Ashokumar's medical team assessed 214 bull tamers while allowing 25 bulls per round.

Jallikattu, also known as "Eru Thazhuvuthal" and "Mancuvirattu," began in full force in three villages of Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The event is a local bull-taming sport where a participant is supposed to grab the bull by the horns and tame it as it tries to shrug him off.
