Tokyo Paralympics 2021: Silver Medal! in High Jump

Nishad Kumar, a para-athlete, grabbed a silver medal in the high jump event at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics on Sunday. Nishad finished in second place with a jump of 2.06m, winning a silver medal. Nishad went on to set an Asian record in the event, and it turned out to be a successful outing for the Indian para-athlete.

Roderick Townsend and Dallas Wise of the United States won gold and bronze, respectively. Townsend cleared 2.15 meters, while Wise cleared 2.06 meters. Nishad and Wise both finished on the same mark, however, Nishad did it on his first try while Wise needed two. As a consequence, Nishad was awarded a silver. Rampal Chahar of India came in fifth place with a leap of 1.94m.

Earlier in the day, India's para table tennis player Bhavina earned silver in the women's singles - Class 4 event at the current Tokyo Paralympics, losing the gold medal match against China's Zhou Ying 3-0.

With this silver medal, Bhavana is the first table tennis player ever to win a medal at the Paralympics for India and the second female athlete after PCI chief Deepa Malik to achieve this feat. Deepa had won silver at Rio 2016 in women's shot put.
