New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Budget was dubbed a "farce, anti-people, and another move toward the Centre's privatisation goal" by certain central trade unions on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) said the Budget was "devoid of substance" and displayed "insensitivity" to the issues experienced by employees during the pandemic.
"The Budget is presented against the backdrop of a desperate and destructive privatisation drive encompassing the infrastructure, manufacturing, and mineral sectors in their entirety, facilitating the transfer of resources from the public purse to private hands, both domestic and foreign," read the CITU statement. The union also stated that the nationwide strike would take place on March 28 and 29.
The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) claimed that the Budget was "yet another boon for corporations," while ordinary citizens were left to fend for themselves.
