Chandigarh: The ongoing farmers' protest demanding paddy procurement has now ended. Traffic on the Delhi-Ambala national highway, which was closed for nearly 21 hours, has resumed. According to the information, the government has softened on the demands of the farmers. The special thing is that due to this block, there was a huge traffic problem around Kurukshetra. The official procurement of paddy is starting from October 1.

Gurnam Singh Chaduni, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union-Chadhuni (BKU-Chadhuni), says that the state government has said that it will start releasing paddy kept in grain markets. He said that as announced earlier, the work on paper will be done on October 1. BKU-C was leading this protest of farmers. Chaduni said where they will store it now is their problem. A petition was filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the blocking of National Highway 44. During the hearing of the petition, the court directed to keep the highway open to improve the traffic system.

The high court had also asked the Haryana chief secretary to file a report regarding the compliance with the directions. Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Surendra Singh Bhoria has said that all diversions have been removed and traffic has now started. We have resolved the matter with the farmers in a friendly manner. In fact, the protesting farmers feared that rain and moisture would spoil the grain and they had no place to store it. In such a situation, the state government should extend the date of procurement. Now the news is coming that the government has accepted the demands of the farmers.
