Chennai: In a tragic accident between Singilipatti and Punnaiyapuram in southern Tamil Nadu on Sunday, at least six individuals lost their lives when a car collided head-on with a truck loaded with cement bags. The victims, identified as Karthik, Vel Manoj, Subramani, Manoharan, and Pothiraj, were returning home from a weekend trip to Kutralam.

The fatal incident occurred around 3:30 am when the car's driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, leading to a head-on collision with the truck destined for Kerala. Five of the six occupants in the car succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while one person died while being transported to the hospital.

Police and Fire and Rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene, recovering the bodies from the wreckage within 30 minutes. The deceased were then taken to the Tirunelveli government hospital for autopsy, and a thorough investigation into the incident has been initiated by the police.

This incident follows another tragic accident on January 24, where four individuals lost their lives and eight others were injured in a collision on Thoppur Ghat Road in Tamil Nadu's Dharmapuri district. CCTV footage captured the sequence of events involving four vehicles, showing a speeding truck colliding with another truck.
