NEW DELHI: Three divorce bills will be introduced in the Upper House of Parliament on Monday. The government is hopeful that the bill will be passed by the Rajya Sabha. On the other hand, the Treasury Benches and the Opposition have the opportunity to again examine their power on the pretext of the Bill. The bill provides for a jail term for calling for triple talaq by men from the Muslim community.

The government has passed the bill from the lower house. The government will have to walk out with the support of non-NDA, non-UPA parties and some MPs to get the green signal from the Upper House. On the other hand, the Lok Sabha Speaker has summoned Azam Khan. He made an impassioned remark on BJP MP Rama Devi.

The issue of Azam Khan's apology is likely to come up again in the lower house today. The NDA's ally, the JD(U) is opposed to the bill. Due to this, the Government may face a little difficulty. Some other parties are in doubt over the anger of Ulemas and Muslim leaders over the bill.

The government's law makers feel that the JD(U) MPs had staged a walkout when the bill was passed in the lower house. Now, the actual figure of the Rajya Sabha is 121. If the JD(U) MPs are absent on the triple talaq bill in the House, the figure will fall to 118. Moreover, if the AIADMK and TRS walkout, the figure will come down and down. The bill is expected to be brought to the upper house this week.
