Truck Drivers in Manipur Launch "Steering Wheel-Down Strike"

Imphal: Truck drivers in Manipur have launched a "steering wheel-down strike" to protest against the recent surge in militant attacks targeting oil tankers. They are demanding stringent action in response to these incidents and seeking enhanced security measures for their vehicles.

The protest, which began with a sit-in demonstration at the Malom Oil Depot in Imphal, is intended to continue until the drivers' demands are met.

The drivers have highlighted the urgent need for adequate security on the highways, as they are frequently subjected to attacks and robberies by miscreants. Additionally, they are demanding compensation for drivers who were injured in a recent attack that occurred on April 16.

More than 800 drivers of trucks carrying essential commodities, including petroleum products, from outside the state are expected to join the steering wheel-down strike.

This strike by the truck drivers is likely to have a significant impact on the local economy and could potentially affect commodity prices within the state.
