Thiruvananthapuram: As part of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, two staff of the Health Department have been chosen as the top vaccinators.
Priya, a Grade I Nursing Officer at Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital, and T. Bhavani, a JPHN Grade I at Payyannur taluk hospital in Kannur, have been chosen for the honour at the national level. On March 8, International Women's Day, they will be honoured at a ceremony in New Delhi.
Congratulating the couple, Health Minister Veena George said the state's health-care employees' unwavering efforts in finishing the COVID-19 vaccination push at a rapid speed helped the state survive the pandemic's third wave.
The first dose of vaccine has been administered to 100 percent of the people over the age of 18, and 86 percent of the population has been fully immunised. In the 15–17 year old age group, 77 percent received the first dosage, whereas 36 percent received both doses.
The health workers' prize is a recognition of the state's accomplishment in carrying out the COVID-19 vaccination push, she explained.
