Srinagar: Two back-to-back landslides were reported at a mega power project site in Kishtwar in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Four people lost their lives in the incident, including a JCB driver and a policeman. Kishtwar Police Commissioner Devansh Yadav said that four bodies have been recovered from the spot and six injured have been rescued.
Earlier, SSP Shafqat Bhat had informed about the recovery of the bodies of JCB driver Manoj Kumar, engineer Sachin and a policeman Yakub among the dead and said that the rescue operation was going on. Now the Police Commissioner said that the rescue operation has been completed. Two back-to-back landslides occurred at the project site on Saturday. According to police, the JCB driver and three others were buried under the debris in the first landslide. After this, a rescue team was sent to the spot, where another incident took place and many rescuers were also trapped in the debris.
All efforts were made to rescue and rescue the trapped people. Giving information about this incident on Twitter, Union Minister Jitendra Singh has said that a report of a fatal landslide has come to the fore at the under-construction Ratle Power Project site. He was informed by the DC of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. He had told that a JCB driver died in the incident. Six rescuers, who were deployed after the incident, were also trapped under the debris.
The Union Minister tweeted, 'All efforts are being made to rescue and rescue the stranded people. Assistance will be provided if needed. I am in constant touch with the district administration.'
