CHENNAI:  Udhayanidhi Stalin, the state's chief minister's son, on Wednesday took the oath of office to join his father's government as a minister.

The oath of office was administered to him by Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi. Several dignitaries attended the swearing-in ceremony, which was held in Durbar Hall.

All senior ministers of the M.K. Stalin cabinet were present during the ceremony. The junior Stalin took the oath of office in Tamil.

After his late grandpa "Kalaignar" Karunanidhi and father M.K. Stalin, Udhayanidhi will be the third generation of the Karunanidhi family to hold the position of minister in Tamil Nadu.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, Udhayanidhi, a film actor and producer, was narrowly elected from the Chepauk Assembly constituency, which had previously been held by his late grandpa Kalaignar Karunanidhi.

Along with the portfolio of programme execution, the young scion of the Karunanidhi family is likely to receive the Sports and Youth Affairs portfolio. Udhayanidhi is likely to be given the task of putting this into action because Tamil Nadu is pressing ahead with the implementation of multiple sports hubs.
