The University Grants Commission (UGC) Issues Stern Warning to Educational Technology Firms Collaborating with Unrecognized Foreign Universities.

Educational technology (EdTech) companies and colleges have been put on notice by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for their collaborative endeavors with foreign universities lacking recognition from the commission. Officials have emphasized that degrees obtained through such arrangements will not hold validity, cautioning students against enrolling in these courses.

Manish Joshi, the Secretary of the UGC, highlighted the concerning trend of numerous Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and colleges forming partnerships with foreign educational entities not sanctioned by the commission. This collaboration often results in the issuance of degrees that lack recognition from the UGC.

"The UGC does not acknowledge any collaboration or arrangement between domestic educational institutions and foreign entities not recognized by the commission. Consequently, degrees obtained through such collaborations remain unrecognized as well," Joshi stated emphatically.

Joshi further revealed the UGC's awareness of certain edtech companies promoting degree and diploma programs online, in association with foreign universities, through advertisements across various media platforms. He firmly clarified that these franchising arrangements are not permissible and any degrees acquired through such programs will not garner UGC recognition. He also emphasized that strict actions will be taken against both the defaulting edtech companies and the Higher Education Institutions involved, in accordance with applicable regulations.

Additionally, Joshi cautioned students and the general public to exercise caution. He advised against enrolling in such courses, stressing that any participation would be undertaken at their own risk.

The UGC's warning serves as a strong message against pursuing educational programs offered by collaborations between EdTech firms and foreign universities lacking recognition, ultimately safeguarding students' academic pursuits and future prospects.
