The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister  Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between India and the United Kingdom on migration and mobility partnership. The move would benefit students and researchers as well as skilled professionals by strengthening the policies to aid the same.

There is good news for students and researchers as well as skilled professionals wishing to study or work in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. While the details of the MoU are not available at the time, it is expected to ease the norms of migration and provide greater access.

"This MoU can support the innovation ecosystem in both countries by facilitating the free flow of talent," the government said. The Ministry of External Affairs would be closely monitoring the effective implementation of the MoU through the Joint Working Group mechanism.

The new migration partnership will see both countries benefit from a new scheme for young Indian and British professionals to live and work in one another's countries, thereby boosting work visas for Indian nationals and enhancing migration cooperation between the two nations.
