Mumbai: Union minister Narayan Rane has been arrested from Chiplun following controversial remarks on slapping CM Uddhav Thackrey for "ignorance of India's year of independence." Narayan Rane's lawyer had gone to the high court for anticipatory bail but the court rejected his application.

According to information received, the Ratnagiri court has also refused to hear Rane's bail plea immediately but the hearing will be held at 4.30 pm. 4 preliminary cases have been registered against Rane for his remarks against CM Uddhav Thackeray. BJP leader and former CM Devendra Fadnavis said that CM is an important post and should be spoken concerning thoughtfully. Fadnavis said the party does not support Narayan Rane's statement but the BJP is behind Narayan Rane. He said the police are working to please the government.

Earlier, Shiv Sainiks, enraged by Narayan Rane's remarks, attacked his house in Mumbai today. Police have also resorted to lathi-charge in Juhu outside Rane's house. Narayan Rane is alleged to have made controversial remarks on Uddhav Thackeray in the Jan Ashirvad Yatra. The ruling Shiv Sena and its youth organization Yuva Sena workers and BJP supporters clashed at several places in Maharashtra on Monday as protests erupted in the state on behalf of Shiv Sena over a comment made by union minister Narayan Rane in the past.
