Jens Spahn, Germany's Minister of Health and Lothar Wieler, President of the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases (RKI), has emphasized the significance of people getting Covid-19 vaccines. At a joint press conference, Spahn said that the number of unvaccinated people in Germany is "still too high," according to media.

"If we don't dramatically improve vaccination rates," he warned, "the ongoing fourth wave could take a fulminant course" this autumn and winter. According to Spahn, the percentage of unvaccinated Covid-19 patients in intensive care units has already surpassed 90%, suggesting a "pandemic among the unvaccinated."

Reports suggest over 51.3 million people in Germany have been completely vaccinated, increasing the country's immunisation rate to 61.7 percent. At least one vaccination dosage has been given to about 55 million individuals.

To boost the country's flagging vaccination campaign, the government is planning a nationwide "vaccine action week" starting September 13 that will offer "creative" ways to get a vaccine without pre-registration or bureaucratic red tape at as many locations as possible across Germany. The number of daily Covid-19 infections stabilized on Wednesday at 13,565 new cases reported within one day, just 34 more than seven days earlier.
