Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted aerial survey of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra in the western part of the state and showered petals on Kanwariyas, an official said on Monday.

The Kanwar Yatra is being held in the state after a two-year hiatus. It had previously been halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. During the yatra, Shiva devotees collect Ganga water to give to the deity at temples back home.

As per reports from Baghpat, the chief minister and district officials greeted Shiva worshipers warmly. Yogi Adityanath threw flowers on the Kanwariyas from his helicopter, a top official in Baghpat.

In the afternoon, the CM's helicopter arrived at the Siddhpeeth Parshurameshwar Puramahadev temple in Baghpat and conducted four rounds of the temple compound. Flowers were rained down on the Kanwariyas from the helicopter as cries of "Har Har Mahadev" rang out.

Rajkamal Yadav, DM of Baghpat, and SP Neeraj Jadaun rode in an open car and showered flowers on Kanwariyas. It was also captured on video and published on social media. As per a tweet from the CM's Office, Adityanath reviewed the arrangements made to ensure the smooth passage of Shiva worshippers and directed officials that devotees and other people encounter no problems during the yatra.

Huge tableaux could be seen accompanying the yatra in certain locations, while Kanwariyas were seen wearing masks of Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in others.
