Lucknow: Taking a commendable step, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to allow transgenders to take advantage of the facility of old age homes run by the government. The facility of Garima Bhawan is going to provide relief to those old and sick transgenders who do not have any family. The State Government has already set up the 'Kinnar Kalyan Board' for the welfare of the community.

Efforts to connect transgenders with the mainstream: Uttar Pradesh Social Welfare Minister Asim Arun has said that the government is also engaged in working to connect the community with the mainstream. He said, "We are also working to bring the community into the mainstream so that their members can also become doctors, engineers etc." He said that a contact centre would soon be set up in Lucknow Directorate to act as a liaison between the department and the beneficiaries of various schemes being run by the government.

Information given by the Minister of Social Welfare: Asim Arun has said that "People can contact us through phone or email through the contact centre and all necessary information or assistance is going to be provided to them." An IT cell has also been set up to develop a user-friendly virtual interface between the beneficiaries and the government. 'Abhyudaya Coaching Scheme' will be run in all district headquarters for poor and rural students.
